Understanding SAIDI and SAIFI
SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index) measures the total minutes per year the average customer is without power. Lower is better. Across the utilities in this dataset, the current average is approximately 362 minutes/year (with major events) or 127 minutes/year (without major events).
SAIFI (System Average Interruption Frequency Index) counts how many times per year the average customer experiences a power outage. The average across this dataset is approximately 1.39 outages/year.
